Yosh! The Ateneo JSP Week

2 responses, Aug 07, 2008

UP Diliman had its dose of Japanese last month during their Japanese language month: JapFun. The moment I saw the JapFun tarp just along the road to the Sunken Garden - “Ang daya! Bakit sila may gano’n?!” - I immediately regretted not going to UP. What kind of J-addict like me wouldn’t want a month full of Japanese-related events?

But then Kami-sama 神様 might have heard my prayer and so Ateneo would be having its Japanese Studies Program Week 日本フェステイバル on the first week of September. Yatta~! やった~! ^_^ Maybe a week isn’t anything compared to a month but our student population is too small for such a huge event anyway.

JSP Week is a week filled with Japanese-culture events. I was so excited I dragged my blockmate who likes Shoujo anime with me to sign-up in the JSP Department. Being the J-addict that I am, I joined all the events that I could join. And no, I did not join the Sumo Wrestling competition. :)

I also signed-up for the Karaoke Contest although I’m feeling quite hopeless with it. I’ve never joined a singing competition before and the only time I sing is when we have practicals in Music class back in high school. The only reason I joined is because I love singing Japanese songs. ^_^ It’s a habit I developed everyday when launching my iTunes.

There’d be preliminary screenings before the actual competition and I’m not expecting much but I’ll still try to sing Life by Yui just for fun. ^_^ It’s the 5th ending of Bleach if you guys don’t recognize it.

For my fellow schoolmates who happen to be J-addicts too, as a member of Toujin (Touhou no Yuujin), it’s practically my responsibility to promote this event because as of now, only members of Toujin and students taking JSP classes know about this. ^_^ So, please participate if you can! ^_^ Onegaishimasu~ お願いします *bows*

Japanese Self-Introduction

We had no classes last Thursday because it was the day of the feast of St. Ignatius ^^ And no, he’s not St. Ateneo. It’s a common misconception. So then I stayed in the condo for the whole day. Bored as I was, I decided to do a little something that concerns Japanese ^^

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Please watch. Oneigashimasu ^^

This is some sort of practice-slash-anti-boredom thing for me.

It’s my first attempt ever and I just started self-studying Japanese recently so forgive me for my ignorance when it comes to the language.

It’s really short but I’ll try to upload a longer one next time when I get to improve on my grammar and vocabulary ^_^

And please do correct me if I have committed some mistakes. ^_^

Domo arigatou gozaimasu! どもありがとうございます!

TRANSLATION:
Hi everyone! My name is Beena. I’m 16 years old and I study in Ateneo de Manila University. I’m studying Japanese but I’m not good at it. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu ^_^ (really can’t decide on a direct translation for this)

Sumimasen! My pronunciation might be a bit off and I tend to forget what to say next and so the pauses and quite unnoticeable stuttering. It’s a self-introduction video in Japanese. Forgive my randomness.

Yoroshiku Oneigashimasu. どうぞよろしくお願いします。

The Bomb that is Globelines

It’s Sunday and I just arrived in the condo from Pampanga. I have to go online so I could pass my homework to my groupmate. I also have to upload some org assignments. I hate you Globelines.

I’m now leeching off from the public wifi which is slower than dial-up. How the heck am I supposed to do all my work in this situation? Globelines gave me a Prolink Hurrican 5200 modem and ADSL light keeps blinking which, after googling with this sloth-like public wifi, means that the line is down. Screw Globelines.

My first month as a Globelines user isn’t even near done and yet a bill in a colorful and presentable Globelines Innove envelope reached the doorway in our house all the way back in Pampanga. How dare you Globelines.

Before we even applied for Globelines, I was choosing over BayanDSL, PLDT MyDSL and Globelines Broadband. Of course, the best choice would’ve been BayanDLS but it’s way beyond our allowance. PLDT MyDSL has already had a bad reputation when it comes to uptime and customer support therefore I went for Globelines Broadband and I thought I would never be bothered with internet connection problems again.

How troublesome.
